What is NASA FINESSE?
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Field Investigations to Enable Solar System Science and Exploration (NASA FINESSE) team is a group of scientists and educators who conduct field research to better our understanding of how we can explore moons, mars, and near-earth asteroids.
How is the Palouse Discovery Science Center involved in FINESSE?
Tiffany Sheely, the education director at the Palouse Discovery Science Center (PDSC), was selected to join the NASA FINESSE team in the summer of 2015. With the team, she conducted field research at Craters of the Moon National Monument. Tiffany has since returned from this experience and developed curriculum, presentations, and lessons to increase public awarness and understanding of current space exploration and research.
Currently, the PDSC is offering a field trip lesson option based on this fieldwork experience to classes grades 2-8 visiting the science center. In addition, watch for daily lessons and Astronomy Day at the PDSC which will also present educational opportunities inspired by NASA FINESSE fieldwork.
